It’s 1974, and Katherine Fornier is a determined Penn State grad student who lands a fellowship working with a scientist in Yellowstone and studying the supervolcano. She’s determined to make history unraveling the workings of the geothermal systems and how they can be used for clean energy. The last thing she wants or needs is a man in her life. Not until she’s earned her doctorate and made a name for herself.

Jackson Thomas is the eldest of four sons. Something about that brother in particular, and his whole family in general, is…different. And not just their gorgeous cobalt blue eyes, either. But Katherine is originally from New York City. She figures the oddities are just cultural differences between her and the Montana family. Although Jackson is, admittedly, quite the hunky catch.

What Katherine doesn’t realize is that Jackson and his family are more than she understands. Their history originates farther away than she can possibly imagine.

And Jackson Thomas wants Katherine as his mate.

Excerpt:

The brothers, led by Jackson, entered the bedroom a few minutes later. Katherine wanted to claw Jackson’s eyes out especially, except that her body remembered how good being with him felt.

Other than the issue of him forcing her.

But I did like—

She crossed her arms over her chest and stared him down. He had the decency to look a little ashamed, at least. As did his brothers. “So what do you want now?”

“Your dinner’s ready,” Jackson told her. He wore an expression that looked equal parts anticipation, hope, regret, and abashed.

God help her, she almost felt bad for him.

Almost.

“Who says I’m going to eat with you?”

“You need to eat.”

“I’m not hungry.”

In another traitorous act, her stomach picked that exact moment to let out a growl worthy of a ravenous grizzly just out of hibernation.

Jackson arched one handsome eyebrow at her. Kota at least had the decency to try to mask his laughing under the guise of a cough.

“I want to go back to the dorm now.” She wasn’t sure how to contact the police there in Gardiner, or if they’d even be any help. For all she knew, they might be friends of or related to the family. The word of four against one. Well, at least four, with Juniper’s apparent mental state, five. And any other family or friends they enlisted.

Katherine wasn’t an idiot. Politics were the same whether you were in a small, backwater country town, or the Big Apple. Your ability to obtain justice depended as much upon who you knew, or what you could pay, not about actual law and order.

“You’re not returning to the dorm yet.” Jackson’s patient tone infuriated her. “We’ve started the process. Once we complete vhsaytla, the third part, then we can discuss where to live.”

He’d rendered her momentarily speechless. “You think I’m going to live with you?” She stepped over, reached out, and shoved him, hard. It was like trying to push over the damned stone arch. “You are certifiably insane.” She punched him in the shoulder. “What kind of drugs are you all on that you can’t understand how horribly wrong it is what you did?”

“You don’t understand how we do things. It’s—”

“Oh, I’m not a law student, but I’m pretty damn sure rape is illegal in all the states.”

He stepped close and grabbed her wrists. When she tried to pull away he held on tighter, but like he was holding back, trying not to hurt her. “You don’t and can’t understand yet. But think about what happened. Put aside your mind, your thinking mind. Focus on what you felt.”

“I felt scared out of my mind, and angry!”

“What else?”

“I—” She’d be damned if she’d admit to him that she’d enjoyed it.

Correction, that her body had enjoyed it.

“Please, come down and eat,” he softly asked. “You need to eat. And we need to talk.”

“I don’t want to talk to you. Any of you. The only person I want to talk to is the sheriff or police chief or whatever you have that passes for law enforcement in this place.”

“And what are you going to tell him?” Jackson asked.

She gaped at him. “What the hell are they teaching you guys out here that you see nothing wrong in what you did?” She ticked off points on her fingers. “Um, you stalked me, you held me down, raped me, all of you, then you drugged me with something and brought me back here, which I believe counts as kidnapping. Let’s add false imprisonment to that list. In New York, you’d be sent to Sing Sing before you could even blink.”

He stepped closer and she fought the urge to cower from him. She had her dignity, dammit.

“Then what do you tell him about this?” Jackson asked. He started making that humming noise again.

Now her stomach wasn’t the only traitor. Her clit throbbed in response, sending waves of cramping need through her body as she forced herself to remain upright and not moan.

Jackson watched her with those cobalt blue eyes of his. “Or this?” He clicked his tongue.

Her eyes fell shut as the orgasm swept through her. She moaned, and it was Jackson who caught her and eased her down onto the bed, staying with her as she tried to recover.

Leaning in, he did it again, right in her ear, just as she’d recovered from the first one.

As she lay there writhing in his arms on the bed, she wanted to smack the smile off his face.

“I’m sure the sheriff will find it amusing that you can’t even get through the story without coming,” Jackson said.

“You bastard,” she gasped. “What the hell did you do to me?”

“It’s our bond,” he said. “We’re meant to be together. It’s not just some feeling, it’s at a molecular level or we wouldn’t even be here.
